red hot summer

6.20.2013

Because I am guilty of consistently gravitating toward blue interiors, I wanted to give red some summer lovin' today:

Red has a special place in my heart. Much like blue, red is bold and bright, but interiors dominated by the color (I'm not talking coral accents) are often feared to be too formal or warm for seaside spaces. Subsequently, red is often bypassed for blue in beach homes, but it shouldn't be discounted from coastal decor. Instead, different shades and patterns of red can be combined to create an unexpectedly soft space which takes the color from bold to beach.

Here's how:

Perhaps am exercising my creative license when I say "red," but isn't that what interior decorating is all about? Go ahead and allow the laid-back lifestyle of the beach to inform your interiors and help you think outside the red box (ooooh--now I want to rent a romcom...):

Enjoy!
